Today for bonus points in my Anatomy and Physiology class, we went to cadaver lab. For anyone who doesn't know what that is, that is when you go to a lab room full of dead bodies that are being cut open and examined in order to learn about the different parts of them. This was my first encounter with a dead body other than the whopping one whole funeral that I have been to. It was definitely an experience... to say the least.
As soon as you walked into the lab it was as if there was a wall of odor that you walked directly into. It was a smell that I have never encountered before and I would not necessarily be upset if it was the last time I had to endure such a stench.
That had to have been a very interesting experience! I will be taking that class sometime next year so that will be something to look forward/dread all semester. What did they teach you during the lab? Did they just let you guys walk around and view the bodies and that was it? I'm definitely not looking forward to the smell!
ReplyDeleteDamon I was in Cadaver Lab as well. It was not a pleasant experience in my opinion. I didn't really put any thought into what a Cadaver Lab was I just knew we got bonus points for going. It was pretty overwhelming see dead bodies throughout the room. Eventually I got over it and actually got to learn some cool stuff about the muscles and ligaments throughout the body.
ReplyDeleteI also went to a cadaver lab once. I went when I was an exercise science major and part of the Pre-Physical Therapy Club. Like you said, that smell was horrible, and I also would be okay if I did not smell it again. It was an interesting experience to me. The stories we heard about some of the bodies and how they discover strange anatomical things with many of the bodies. After opening up he one body, they had discovered that he had 3 lungs! Thanks for sharing the post, though.
